Confessions of a first-time Mucker

With our very first MuckFest® MS Dallas coming up this weekend, we wanted to do a #TBT to when we had the chance to speak with Mark Hammer from Thornton, CO before he took on the mud and muck for the first time back in July at MuckFest MS Denver. He shares his thoughts on MuckFest MS and tells us about how he got involved with the mud and obstacle run.

Q: MuckFest MS: Hey, Mark! So glad we could chat about your first MuckFest MS event ever! Can you tell us a little about your team?

Mark: I have a team of seven and our team name is our company, Mark Hammer Construction. I’m from Thornton, CO and excited to muck in Denver!

Q: MuckFest MS: We know this is your first MuckFest MS event, but have you participated in any other MS related events before?

Mark: My first MS event was Walk MS about three years ago.

Q: MuckFest MS: Awesome! How did you hear about MuckFest MS?

Mark: We heard about MuckFest MS through our affiliation with the Walk MS team Kelly’s Heroes. We receive newsletters from the National MS Society and saw it there!

Q: MuckFest MS: What about MuckFest MS motivated you to sign up?

Mark: A friend and I did the Tough Mudder and loved it. We wanted to put that motivation toward helping a great cause.

Q: MuckFest MS: You say you wanted to help a great cause. Do you know anyone who is living with MS?

Mark: My cousin, Kelly, lives with MS. My team “Mark Hammer Construction” have chosen to help put an end to MS. We walk with her Walk MS team and now sponsor this MuckFest MS team to help raise money for a cure.

Q: MuckFest MS: What are you most looking forward to at the event?

Mark: I’m most looking forward to having fun, posting pictures on social media, and helping raise awareness for multiple sclerosis.

Q: MuckFest MS: Describe what you think MuckFest MS will be like in three words.

Mark: Fun, Dirty, Exciting!

Q: MuckFest MS: What would you say to someone who is scared to take that leap and sign up for the event?

Mark: To someone scared to do it, I would say, “It will be a blast! It is all for fun and a good cause! You don’t have to do anything you can’t, but your team will help you all the way!”
Q: MuckFest MS: Which obstacle are you most excited to try?

Mark: I think The Abbvie Spinner looks like it will be fun!

Q: MuckFest MS: Finish this sentence… “When I get into my #MudZone, I’ll probably…”

Mark: When I get into my #MudZone, I will probably eat a face full of mud and give a teammate a big hug!

That sounds like the #MudZone to us… Mark and his team took on MuckFest MS Denver and indeed gave some muddy hugs and got faces full of muck. Mark let us know that his “team had so much fun navigating the muddy course! All while, raising money for research and creating awareness about MS!” They rocked their team logo for Mark Hammer Construction with an awesome tagline: “Building a future without MS”.

Now we want to hear from YOU! Share your first-time mucking experience with us!
